Here is an article to show you how you can root Mi A2/ A2 Lite using Magisk and Install TWRP Recovery. MI A2/ A2 Lite is an Android One device that is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor and Android v8.1 Oreo out of the box which can be upgraded to Android 9.0 Pie.
In case you have already upgraded your Mi A2/ A2 Lite to the Android 9.0 Pie, then you have to follow another method for rooting it. The below method will not be applicable to Android 9 Pie on Mi A2/ A2 Lite. This is because it requires Forced-EEncryption Disabler to install first. So make sure that you have a Mi A2/ A2 Lite running on Android 8 Oreo to follow the below given rooting guide.

Root Mi A2/ A2 Lite using Magisk and Install TWRP Recovery
The latest TWRP Builds for Mi A2 and A2 Lite have now been released and using it users can now flash Magisk to root the two devices. Here is how you can root Mi A2 and A2 Lite with Magisk and Install TWRP Recovery. But before that make sure to fulfill the below requirements first.
- Enable USB Debugging and OEM Unlock from Settings>Security.
- Make sure to take a complete backup of your device data.
- Install ADB and Fastboot Tools.
- Make sure to have at least half of the battery percentage on your device.
- Unlock Bootloader of your Xiaomi Mi A2/ A2 Lite.
- Working and Reliable USB Cables.
Install TWRP Recovery on Mi A2/ A2 Lite
Step 1. Firstly Download the above TWRP and Magisk ZIP Files for your device and then move them to the ADB folder on your PC.
Step 2. Now open the PowerShell Window in the ADB Folder by pressing the Shift Key+ Right Click on Mouse.
Step 3. Now Boot your Xiaomi Mi A2/ A2 Lite into Fastboot Mode or Bootloader Mode. For this, just long-press the Volume Down + Power Button together until you see FASTBOOT on the screen.
Step 4. Now connect your Xiaomi A2 Device to the PC using USB Cables.
Step 5. In the Command Window, run the below commands as per your device model –
Mi A2 – fastboot boot TWRP-3.2.3-jasmine-20181201.img
Mi A2 Lite – fastboot boot twrp-3.2.3-0-daisy.img
Step 6. Soon your device will boot into TWRP Recovery. In the TWRP menu, go to ‘Advanced’ > ‘ADB Sideload’ and then swipe the ‘Swipe to start to sideload’ button so as to confirm the process.
Step 7. Lastly, enter the below command according to your device model – A2 or A2 Lite so as to permanently flash TWRP recovery on it.
Mi A2 – ADB sideload twrp-installer-jasmine-3.2.3.zip
Mi A2 Lite – ADB sideload twrp-installer-daisy-3.2.3-0.zip
That is it. Just be patient until the procedure is finished. You have now successfully installed TWRP Recovery on your Xiaomi Mi A2/ A2 Lite.
Now the next job is to root the device but before rooting, you will have to first format the data partition and then flash the forced-encryption disabler. For that, follow the below steps –
Format Data Partition and Disable Android Pie Encryption
Step 1. Once you have installed the TWRP ZIP, go to the TWRP menu and then follow – ‘Wipe’ > ‘Format Data’.
Step 2. Here, type ‘YES’ and then confirm Data format.
Step 3. Then enable MTP in the mount tab and then connect your MI A2 Device to the PC with the help of USB Cables.
Step 4. Now from the links given above, download Forced Encryption Disabler ZIP for Mi A2 device of yours and then move it to the internal storage of the device.
Step 5. You can now disconnect the USB Cabler.
Step 6. In the TWRP menu, Go to ‘Install’ and locate Forced Encryption Disabler ZIP.
Step 7. Choose it and swipe the ‘swipe to confirm the flash’ option.
Step 8. Be patient until the procedure is done. And finally, you can hit the ‘Reboot System’ button now.
That’s it. You have now disabled the encryption on Mi A2/ Mi A2 Lite. You can now go forward to rooting your Mi A2 device by following the below short guide.
Root Mi A2 / A2 Lite Using Magisk
Step 1. To begin with, Download Magisk Flashable ZIP from the links given above.
Step 2. Then Move the ZIP-File to the internal storage of the device.
Step 3. Boot Xiaomi Mi A2/A2 Lite into Recovery Mode. For this, long-press the Volume Up and Power buttons together.
Step 4. Now go to the TWRP menu and go to ‘Install’ and then locate the Magisk Flashable ZIP File. Choose it and then swipe the ‘swipe to confirm the flash‘ option.
Step 5. Be patient until the procedure finishes. And lastly, tap on the ‘Reboot System’ option.
That’s it. You have successfully rooted Xiaomi Mi A2/ A2 Lite using Magisk & TWRP Recovery.
